Does this sound familiar?
Ā You have a Gelli plate.
You've had a go.
Something's not quite working.
Ā
Maybe the paint dries before you've had a chance to think.
Maybe the colours go muddy.
Maybe the prints feel flat and you're not sure why.
Ā
Or perhaps you've watched videos, had a go, and still felt like you were missing something ā some invisible quality that makes a print feel truly alive.
Ā It's not you.
It's just that nobody's shown you a slow, considered approach that gives you time to breathe, to think, and to actually enjoy what you're making.

This course is aĀ studio session, filmed in real time as I worked through a series of botanical prints before the leaves disappeared for the summer.
I deliberately haven't sped it up. I want you to seeĀ the actual paceĀ ā the thinking, the layering, the happy accidents ā and how a cohesive series of prints comes together over the course of an afternoon.
Ā
"I donāt just teach techniques separately.
I show you how they merge naturally. "
ā Susan McCreevy
Ā
Using slow-drying Golden Open Acrylics and a 16Ć20 inch Gelli plate, I work through multiple layers, different leaf shapes, and a variety of papers āĀ from aged sketchbook pages to coffee-dyed envelopes and tissue paperĀ ā to show you how a considered, unhurried approach leads to something reallyĀ quite beautiful.

What you'll learn?
1.Ā Why slow-drying paints change everything ā Golden Open Acrylics give you time to compose, adjust, and think, rather than panicking before the paint dries.
2.Ā How to mix colours directly on the plate without them going muddy ā and which colours sit happily side by side on the colour wheel.
3. Positive and negative prints from the same plants ā two completely different results from a single setup. You'll be amazed at how different they look.
4. The ghost print and how to use it ā there's almost always more paint left on the plate than you think, and the ghost print can be the loveliest of them all.
5. Printing on papers with character ā aged sketchbook paper, coffee-dyed copy paper, envelopes, book pages, and wet strength tissue. Each one brings something different.
6. Building a cohesive series ā how to work intuitively across multiple prints so they belong together, ready for a journal, an accordion book, or a larger painted piece.
7. Rescuing prints you're not happy with ā I show you exactly how I pull a print back from the brink with a well-placed final layer.
8. How to use your prints as finished art ā at the end I show the handmade journal and accordion artist book I made using the very papers created in this session.
